George Savanick performed research on borehole mining for the US Bureau of Mines from 1971 until 1996.He directed field trials of borehole mining of coal, uranium ore, oil sands, phosphate ore and gold.  This research involved building experimental mining equipment and transferring mining technology to industry. Since 1996 he has consulted with industry on borehole mining. He is a founding member of the Waterjet Technology Association (WJTA) and has served as president since 1985. He is the chairman of the WJTA Safety Committee and is the editor of the WJTA magazine “Jetnews”.
